First Nations Feminist

Yaama, my name is Renay, I am a proud Birpi / Daingatti yinarr (woman). My mob is from the mid North coast of so called New South Wales, and it’s where I spent my formative years. However, as an adult my journey saw me living in Narrm, and now on Waddawurrung Country in regional Victoria. I live, love, and create across the Kulin Nation (and in fact the world) to share and experience the world of art. I am disabled, I have mobility limiting diseases, and I live with chronic pain and fatigue as a result of that. I also have psychosocial illnesses, and I am a firm believer in the social model of disability. I am an staunch intersectional feminist, abolisitionist, and I aim to defy the colonial boundaries imposed on First Nations people.

I am a storyteller. It’s an unavoidable part of me, and a fundamental part of my culture to have a yarn. My work spans a variety of mediums, but directing it all is my desire to share my experience. Although my style of delivery is varied, whatever the work, the stories intertwined always come from a Blak, Disabled, Intersectional feminist perspective.

My artistic passions include writing, designing, styling, creating, and modeling wearable art, digital, multimedia work, and sculpture to name a few. I am a writer, speaker, artist, model, consultant, and more.

Blog

I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Country I live and work on, the Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung People. I recognise their continuing connection to the land and waterways. I pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and extend this to all First Nations People.
